This is i.e. related in some countries to cigarettes or alcoholic products. Some services or product contents may restrict a different age, related to the vending machine, this needs different ages to be checked within the same machine.

The difference of this Engineer version from the standard three LED version is:

1. Fully Support 08H, 30H, 10H, 60H ,40H and 68H device

2. 68H Device is the MDB Age verification interface and 40H is the USD device

3. After the MDB box is powered on, the device will not automatically enable the payment device, and the host VMC needs to enable the device through the enable command.

If you want to test the age verification, you must have already prepared a MDB interface age verification device.

Therefore, customers who are already using three LED MDB-RS232 boxes, if you need to replace this new version box, it is best to test the compatibility first, or contact customer service for advice.

This Interface adapter is designed to convert the vending machine MDB protocol to RS-232 serial protocol. The adapter functions as a slave to a master control system. The master may be any control system that supports RS-232 serial communication, for example a PC.

DESCRIPTION

This adapter is designed to convert the MDB Bill Acceptor BA and MDB Coin Changer CC protocol to RS-232 serial protocol. The IU functions as a slave to a master control system. The master may be any control system that supports RS-232 serial communication, for example a PC.
OPERATION:

The master and slave communication is based on master requests and slave replies. The master sends a status request or command to the IU and IU answers by sending its current status. The IU’s typical response to the Master’s request polling consists of a header and data bytes. If there is no BA or CC activity, the status is one byte, the header only. When the IU receives data from the BA or CC, it sends a header followed by data bytes in the response to master’s status request. The master must always poll query the IU. If the IU does not receive a query from the master in the predefined time slot or IU does not recognize master messages 10 times in row, it will inhibit the BA and CC acceptance. At power up, acceptance of the BA and CC is inhibited.

What is MDB and Why do I need the MDB-RS232 ?

MDB stands for Multi-Drop Bus and is a protocol developed by vending machine industry. The Multi-drop Bus MDB protocol is not compatible with the standard RS-232 PC protocol and therefore a hardware and software interface is necessary. The MDB-RS232 is a microprocessor controlled hardware interface with embedded firmware that converts the MDB protocol to an RS232 protocol and also performs the necessary voltage conversion. The MDB-RS232 also relieves the Polling requirements thereby allowing the same PC to perform other tasks.
The MDB-RS232 is necessary to interface the industry standard MDB Vending machine protocol to a standard PC because:
The MDB uses 11 Bits and a nine 9 bit byte.

The polling requirements for the various MDB devices are excessive 20-200 ms.

A non-dedicated PC can not meet the polling requirements.

The MDB-RS232 takes care of the polling requirements and generates an interrupt on the serial port of the PC.

This methods allows the PC to perform normal operations and respond to interrupt driven comm events in the UART buffer.

All data from an MDB device is available to the PC.

Additionally, all commands can be sent to the MDB device from the PC ie. dispense, write to smart card etc…

The MDB-RS232 interfaces any MDB vending device 6-pin molex/5pin MTA to the PC via the serial port DB-9. Future support may include Universal Serial Bus. The MDB-RS232 protocol is compatible with standard RS-232 Protocol.

Coin Acceptors/Dispensers and Foreign Currency:

Any MDB compliant device may be interfaced to a PC. This now makes it possible to accept and dispense any coin types including foreign currency and Euro Dollar when available.

What is MDB-RS232 and RS232-MDB adapter box?

Before order,you should know exactly what is the difference and then you will know what type is the exact products yoou need to order:

MDB-RS232 is used to connect the MDB bill acceptor,coin validator,cashless payment device to computer. then you will design the Software that will run in the PC and work as the master main vending controller. 

For example,you develop the kiosk information machine. then you need to connect the MDB bill acceptor,coin validator to computer,but you don't know how to connect the MDB interface payment device to computer, because computer only has the RS232 port, no MDB port.then you need to order the MDB-RS232 adapter MDB-PC Adapter .

RS232-MDB is used to connect the pc to existing vending machine.then you will need to design the Software that will run in the PC and work as the slave cashless payment device.and then you PC will work as a cashless payment device to vending machine.
